Trail Head People
Nigel Ray

Age: 40 (In October '03)

Hometown: Menlo Park

Years riding: About 20

Current quiver: S-Works Enduro; Intense Tracer; Ibis Silk Ti; Voodoo Limba Cross

Favorite bike: Depends on the particular trail I am riding

Favorite type of riding: Ungroomed singletrack with stunts

Favorite ride: I have several favorite rides, but think the "double loop" at the Soquel Demonstration Forest is outstanding. We typically descend Ridge Trail and Saw Pit, climb Tractor, turn left on Ridge and descend Braile. It's both technically and physically challenging.

How has your riding changed over the years? I am always looking to challenge my technical skills and my physical abilities, so I would like to think that I have become a more competent rider over the years.

What's your most memorable cycling experience? My "top 10" most memorable rides include Haflin and Hermosa Creek Trails in Durango, The Mount Wilson Downhill in Pasadena, the McKenzie River Trail in Oregon, Mr. Toads in Tahoe, Big Boulder/Second Divide combination in Downieville, The South Yuba River Trail near Nevada City, Angelus Oaks Trail near Big Bear, and Deer Creek and 401 in Crested Butte.

Why Trail Head Cyclery? I ride frequently and demand a lot from my equipment, hence Trail Head is the natural choice. They provide excellent service and outstanding products. The Trail Head team is friendly and professional, and they consistently offer on-target product advice and information. Their service ability and suspension knowledge is without peer anywhere in The Valley, plus they have excellent relationships with manufacturers, hence they can diagnose, fix or warranty a problem so that I can get back on the trail. Plus, Trail Head is the only shop I'm aware of that supports the local trail community by being actively involved in building and maintaining trails.
