We love
riding great trails, and we're sure you do too. Trails don't appear out
of thin air: They are formed and maintained by political involvement and
old fashioned hard work. That's why we wholeheartedly support trail advocacy
and maintenance. We encourage you to take the time to give back and put
some work into your playground.
Remember the 20/20/20 rule. Contribute 20hours of your time to trail maintenance.

Easy riding, tough politics
This season has graced us with some of the best riding conditions,
and some of the worst political... I'm talking about the closure of
Nisene Marks. If you have not heard of this atrocity yet, look below
for the whole story. We've been buy'n Fox Save the Trail shirts, sending
letters and directing some contributions to the appeal costs of this
Sierra Clubber's lawsuit. And that is good. This is a wake up call
for all of us to be more of a presence in park matters.
Now is another chance for us to be heard! Mid Pen has posted a
survey on their site for us to fill out. Do this now and forward
it to all of your riding buds. Future trail access depends on rider
input. We MUST participate or we will be forgotten and shunned...
Please fill out the current user survey on Midpen's web site.

Look for the "take the 2004 user survey" link just below the Welcome
to Your Open Space! banner.
We suggested more multi-use trails, including bikes and dogs:)

Save Nisene Marks State Park
Very bad things are happening to one of our favorite riding spots
and, by extension, its neighbor the Soquel Demonstration Forest. A
recent court ruling bans bikes in Nisene Marks, including on the Aptos
Creek Fire Road that climbs to the top of the Demo and allows us to
loop up the road then down Ridge and other fine trails. This is no
joke. We need your help!
For more info about the situation check out this story on the ROMP
site.
Please write a letter or email to the California Department of Parks
and Recreation asking them to appeal the court ruling that blocks
bicycle access to Nisene Marks trails. You'll find addresses and a
form letter on Fox Racing Shox's Free
The Trail page. When you buy a $10 Free The Trail shirt, all profits
help fight this case. Buy a dang shirt. Write a letter. This is serious!
We'll have the Free The Trail shirts in the shop by Saturday, Nov.
13.
In case you can't get onto the Fox site, here are the addresses for
your letter:

Blue Blossom Trail History
Charles and his hard-working friends have saved a gem of El Corte
Madera, a once brutally steep pitch that now meanders like a country
gentleman. Read how they did it and how you can help on the next project.

Nisene
Marks makeover Posted
February 2004
On Jan. 19 the Advocates for Nisene Marks State Park re-routed part
of West Ridge Trail. Trail Head crew member Charles Jalgunas helped
out with some of his special "bent shovels," which made the work go
much easier. (Story on trailworkers.com) |

IMBA epic ride at Henry
Coe State Park Posted
October 2003
On Sept. 20-21, ROMP hosted an IMBA Epic in Henry Coe State Park.
Day one was a typically hot, brutal Coe ride. Day two was trail work.
Why would people who get their butts kicked by the Bay Area's toughest
spot come back the next day to massage the trails? It's the love,
baby. |
